My grandmother gave me a diamond (maybe?) ring recently. It must have been hers at one point, and it wasn’t new from a store.

Inside the band it says "18 KT. H.G.E." then a symbol that’s a V overlapping a figure shaped like this: <>

It’s silver looking, so I’m assuming it’s 18 karat white gold. But what do the other letters and symbol mean?
