How are diamond rings/jewelry sold? Do you negotiate a price or make an offer based on their asking price??

   1) understand the grading system by searching the net. Look for GIA certified diamonds. Size, color, clarity, and the cut of the stone itself. This process should also give you a good idea of the cost of a good stone.
   2) Once you’ve done that go to the large retailers and tell them what you are looking for. There prices are usually too high. (go to several)
   3) After you get an idea of the retail value of a good stone and setting. Go to some small jewelers and see what kind of deal you can get. Insist that the diamonds come with a GIA certification.
   4) find your target price and start negotiating. It takes work but you will both be happy.
   5) If your going to take her with you( not a good idea it will spoil the surprise) to pick it out make sure that you’ve followed the first 4 steps.

   In my experience the price on the ring in the jewelry store in not negotiable, but it never hurts to ask if this is the lowest they will sell the ring at.

   If you are planning to buy from a “reputable” store (which I hope you are) you have to pay their price. A few suggestions for some stores are: Jarons, Kay Jewelers, Gordon’s…etc..

   no haha you can’t negotiate their prices. i wish!! that would be great. but most likely what theyhave as the price is what you will be paying.

   Diamonds are sold according to the 4C’s: CUT, Clarity Color and Carat… Look up diamond grading on the net… a 1 carat diamond that was "Brilliant Cut", Flawless and M in "Color" or "Fancy Yellow" Could be worth 10 times a 1 Carat . Brilliant Cut, G color, SI-1 Clarity stone… Ask to see same size stones with same cut and different clarity and color… Gold is 10-14-18-24 Kt. Higher number being purer, and sold in Troy ounces or Grams and is based on the going rate of gold on the Market… That help? Don’t pay "Sticker" unless you know it’s already discounted… Diamonds can be marked up 200 to 400%
