If you are twisting a single wire it must be SQUARE wire, not ROUND wire.
Round wire will twist, but because it is round, it won’t look like you’ve done anything to it.
Square wire is what is used to get that lovely "diamond cut" appearance.
Square wire is available through most jewelry suppliers who sell wire and most refiners.
To twist square wire, use an electric screwdriver (safest) or an electric drill (one that has variable speed so you can twist slowly and safely) that has a chuck on it that can be tightened down to hold one end of the wire.
Place the other end of the wire in a vise or hold it with a pair of pliers if the length of wire is short enough. Pull the wire relatively taut between the screwdriver/drill and the vise/pliers. Begin to slowly apply power to the screwdriver/drill and twist till you get the appearance you are after.
Most wires (including silver, goldfill & gold) will work-harden as you twist them; the wire will become springier and less malleable. If you twist the wire enough it will break.
Always make certain you are wearing eye protection/safety glasses while working with the wire.
