What kind of clarity should I get for a fancy yellow diamond?

I’m planning to get my lady a 1.5 ct, fancy yellow diamond engagement ring. I know the clarity does not have to be quite as good for a yellow diamond. I just want to make sure there are no inclusions visible to the naked eye. I do not plan on spending more than ,000 for the entire ring. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.

If she prefers a fancy yellow diamond, then go for it :) If not, I would go with a colorless diamond, for that price you can get a beautiful one. Other than that I would not get anything less than SI2. As in don’t get anything I1-I3. VS1-VS2 is a good choice without spending loads of money for inclusions you cannot see to the naked eye with VS1-VS2. Good luck :)

VS1 & VS2 (VS1 denotes higher clarity than VS2) – Minor Inclusion which means the inclusion is somewhat easy for a trained graded to see under 10X magnification but not visible to unaided eye.

SI1 & S12 (SI1 denotes higher clarity than SI2) – Noticeable Inclusion which means the inclusion is noticeable under 10X magnification and may or may not noticecable to unaided eye.

Thus, I would suggest you to choose either VS2 or SI1. The price for these 2 grade is more economical and normally does not have eye visible inclusion. However if you are choosing emerald cut diamond where it has a large facet (table) on the top, the inclusion might still visible to unaided eye for these two grade.

I’m getting my engagement ring made as we speak. It’s a 2.1 carat center stone- natural fancy light yellow, VVS1. The one thing I noticed after researching them is if they are natural vs enhanced. I wouldn’t go lower than VS2. The best thing you can do is get a gemologist to look at the GIA report on it. My friend is one and helped me a lot.
